Father and Grandfather of Minor Accused Granted Bail in Pune Porsche Case, Alleged Pressuring of Driver Highlighted

The Pune Court has granted bail to the father and grandfather of the minor accused in the Pune Porsche car accident case. They were accused of allegedly coercing their driver to take responsibility for the accident and unlawfully confining him within their residence.

The two are booked under sections 342, 365, 368, 506 with 34 of IPC.

“My clients have been granted bail by the Honourable court at Pune. They shall cooperate with the investigation agency for the investigation of the matter and shall abide by the conditions of the Honourable Court”, Advocate Prashant Patil for the accused has said.

The father, a prominent builder in Pune, faces charges in three cases linked to the accident: one under the Motor Vehicles Act and two separate cases under the IPC. These charges include wrongful confinement of the driver and tampering with the minor's blood sample on the night of the incident. The grandfather is booked in a single case for allegedly confining the driver unlawfully.

Last week, the father was granted bail in the case related to the accident. He is charged under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which involve wilful neglect and supplying intoxicating substances to a minor, respectively. Allegedly, he allowed the minor accused, who lacked a valid driving license, to drive the car and permitted him to attend a party, despite being aware of his drinking habits.

Last week, the Bombay High Court ordered the release of the minor accused from the observation home, criticizing the prosecution and law enforcement agencies for their handling of the case, which it described as influenced by public outcry and conducted in a haphazard manner.

Describing the accident as "ghastly," a division bench of Justice Bharati Dangre and Justice emphasized that while sympathizing with the families of the deceased victims, the court is obligated to uphold the law. The court asserted that the minor accused should be treated no differently than any other child in conflict with the law.
