The Delhi High Court on Monday indicated that it will expedite hearings on a batch of petitions challenging the results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) UG 2025, held in December last year for admissions to undergraduate law programs across National Law Universities (NLUs).
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela underscored the urgency of the matter, observing that a decision on the CLAT UG petitions must be reached before the court's vacation.
“There is a concern. There is urgency as far as UG exams are concerned. What we propose to do is, we would complete hearing [petitions concerning UG exam] at the earliest so that results are declared…. [hearing in] UG may start and PG we will see what can be done,” Chief Justice Upadhyaya remarked during the hearing. “Let’s start the hearing, at least UG matters… We have to decide before vacations,” he added.
Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for the Consortium of National Law Universities, also made submissions concerning certain disputed questions in the CLAT UG 2025 exam.
The matter will continue to be heard on Tuesday.
The petitions had originally been filed before multiple High Courts including those of Delhi, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Bombay, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab & Haryana. These were later transferred to the Delhi High Court following a transfer petition by the Consortium, which was allowed by the Supreme Court.
Earlier, in December 2024, a single judge of the Delhi High Court had held that two questions in the CLAT UG 2025 exam had incorrect answers and directed the Consortium to revise the petitioners’ results accordingly. The Consortium challenged this order before a division bench, which observed prima facie that it did not find any error in the single judge’s ruling.
The lead case in the present batch is titled Consortium of National Law Universities vs. Master Aditya Singh, Minor & Other Connected Matters.
