Today, the Delhi High Court issued notice to the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the petitions filed by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia seeking bail in the Delhi excise policy case.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma announced that the matter would be heard on May 8. Additionally, the Court granted permission to Sisodia to meet his wife once a week while in custody. This decision followed the ED's statement expressing no objection to Sisodia's request for custody parole to visit his wife.
On April 30, a Delhi court dismissed Sisodia's bail plea in both the CBI and ED cases, which prompted him to file the current plea before the High Court. Sisodia has been in custody since February 26, 2023, undergoing investigation by both the CBI and the ED concerning the Delhi excise policy case.
The case revolves around accusations that officials of the Delhi government colluded to grant liquor licenses to specific traders in return for bribes. The implicated officials are alleged to have manipulated the excise policy to favor particular liquor sellers.
Sisodia's bail petitions have been rejected by the trial court twice now. Initially, his bail plea in the CBI case was dismissed on March 31, 2023, followed by the rejection of his bail application in the ED case on April 28, 2023. Both the Delhi High Court and subsequently the Supreme Court upheld the trial court's decisions in October 2023.
He proceeded to file a second set of bail pleas before the trial court, which were also dismissed earlier this week.
