"Delhi High Court has issued an order restraining over 100 rogue websites from streaming or hosting the upcoming animated film "Spider-Man: Across The SpiderVerse" and its prequel "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse." The order was passed on May 29, following a plea by Sony Pictures Animation Inc, the copyright holder of the movie."
Justice C Hari Shankar directed internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to these websites and instructed government authorities to issue a notification regarding the same. The court ordered the defendants, the rogue websites and those acting on their behalf, to refrain from posting, streaming, reproducing, distributing, or making available the copyrighted content of the films on their websites or through the internet.
Sony stated that the film "Spider-Man: Across The SpiderVerse" is scheduled for release on June 2, and despite Sony holding the copyright and broadcasting rights, many of these rogue websites have advertised the movie's impending broadcast.
After examining the case, the court found that Sony had made a prima facie case, and therefore, passed an interim injunction order. The court also issued summons on the suit and listed the case for further consideration before the joint registrar on July 31.
Advocates Saikrishna Rajagopal, Suhasini Raina, Ramya Ramkumar, Mehr Sidhu, Raghav Goyal, Sanidhya Rao, and Anjali Agrawal represented Sony in the case, while no one appeared for the defendants.
