Delhi HC Rejects Plea to Postpone CA Exams Amid Lok Sabha Elections

The Delhi High Court, on Monday refused to postpone the Chartered Accountants (CA) inter and final exams 2024, scheduled for May.

The single headed bench of Justice C. Hari Shankar dismissed the plea filed by 27 candidates requesting a postponement of the exams to June, citing the Lok Sabha elections.

The Delhi High Court emphasized that the impending hardship faced by candidates in taking the exam cannot serve as a basis for derailing the examination process, especially considering that approximately 4,26,000 aspirants are expected to participate.

The Court noted that the general elections are slated for May 7th and 13th, with no exams scheduled for May 6th and 12th. Additionally, the Court mentioned the proactive measures taken by authorities to ensure that candidates can exercise their voting rights without interference from the exams.

The Court emphasized that it is incumbent upon the candidates to manage their schedules effectively if they wish to cast their votes, implying that the responsibility lies with the candidates to balance their exam preparations and civic duties.

The counsel appearing for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) submitted that rescheduling the exam in the second week of June would throw the exams into disarray.

He also stated that due care has been taken to ensure that no exams are scheduled on the date when the polls are scheduled.
