Delhi HC Directs Twitter to Restore Senior Advocate Sanjay R Hegde's Suspended Account

In an order dated December 11, the Delhi High Court directed Twitter to restore the suspended account of Senior Advocate Sanjay R. Hegde.

Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju, presiding over the matter, emphasized that "no action shall be taken against the petitioner by Respondent No. 2, except in accordance with the law and applicable statutory rules and guidelines."

Twitter's counsel, Advocate Ankit Parhar, informed the court that Hegde's account had already been restored, arguing that keeping the case pending would serve no purpose and would merely be "an academic exercise."

In response, Advocate Pranjal Kishore, representing Hegde, contended that the account was reinstated only after filing the writ petition. He also pointed out that the images originally flagged as objectionable remain visible on the account.

Kishore further raised concerns over the lack of explanation from Twitter regarding both the suspension and subsequent restoration. He argued that the absence of clarity undermined trust and left room for the possibility of arbitrary suspension in the future.

After considering the submissions, the court issued appropriate directions and disposed of the petition.

Counsel Representation:

  • For the Petitioner: Advocates Pranjal Kishore and Madiya Mushtaq
  • For Twitter: Advocates Ankit Parhar and Abishek Kumar
  • For the Union: Standing Counsel Amit Tiwari
