Deceased Gangster Sanjiv Maheshwari wife approaches SC seeking permission to attend her husband's funeral

Today, Payal Maheshwari, wife of deceased gangster Sanjiv Maheshwari Jeeva, approaches the Supreme Court seeking permission to attend her husband's funeral.

A division bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Rajesh Bindal said that the Court will hear the matter and pass an order on Friday.

Yesterday, Jeeva was shot dead in Lucknow Civil Court.

Reportedly a close associate of former UP MLA Mukhtar Ansari, he was an accused in the murder of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Brahm Dutt Dwivedi.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Additional Advocate General (AAG) Ardhendumauli K Prasad told the Supreme Court that the case be heard on Friday, while the petitioner lawyer argued for the importance of closure for Jeeva's family, citing his three sons and daughter.

The UP AAG further mentioned that the body of the deceased gangster might be taken to Muzaffarnagar, the family's hometown, but emphasized that Payal is also a gangster named in the gangster chart.

The petitioner, however, sought a day's protection to reach her family and participate in the funeral ceremony, to which Justice Bose responded that the matter would be heard and orders would be passed on Friday.

Thereafter, Uttar Pradesh Advocate General (AG) Garima Prashad stated that the State of UP has no issues with the petitioner attending the funeral.
