Today, a Kerala court granted bail to CPI(M) leader P.P. Divya in connection with an abetment to suicide case tied to the death of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu.
Principal District and Sessions Judge, Thalassery, K.T. Nissar Ahammed, approved the bail for Divya, the former president of the Kannur District Panchayat. Divya, who had been in judicial remand, had filed a petition for regular bail after her anticipatory bail application was denied by the court on October 29.
The case stems from an incident on October 14, when Divya, allegedly uninvited, attended Babu’s send-off function. During the event, she criticized Babu for delaying the approval of a petrol pump in Chengalai for several months, suggesting that the approval came just two days after his transfer, hinting at deeper reasons behind the sudden decision. The following day, Babu was found dead in his quarters in Kannur.
