Chief Justice's Wife Honors Constitution Day with Visit to Mitti Cafe Amidst Statue Unveiling at SC

On Constitution Day, the team at Mitti Cafe within the Supreme Court of India welcomed a distinguished guest. Kalpana Das, the wife of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, graced the cafe following the inauguration of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's statue at the Court premises

Ms. Das engaged warmly with the Mitti Cafe staff, reminiscing about her inauguration of the cafe at Hansraj College in Delhi University. Showing her support, she made purchases from this newly established outlet, which is managed by a team of specially-abled individuals. She expressed her intent to revisit and enjoy a cup of coffee. Simultaneously, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled a statue of Dr. B R Ambedkar at the Supreme Court premises, marking the auspicious occasion.

Chief Justice of India, along with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, paid homage to the architect of the Indian Constitution by laying flowers at the towering 7-foot sculpture. Following the unveiling, President Murmu and Chief Justice DY Chandrachud took part in a tree plantation drive, symbolizing growth and renewal.

The Chief Justice of India said, "Every matter that comes to the court is a testament to the rule of the Constitution in India. It gives us the right to resolve not just political disputes but also other disputes."

"People come to the Supreme Court even in the hope for clean water and air and since the time of postcards, they have been writing letters to the Supreme Court to seek justice, which signifies people's trust," the Chief Justice of India added.

The Chief Justice of India, accompanied by Supreme Court judges, recently launched the Mitti Cafe, a compassionate endeavor aimed at empowering individuals with disabilities through employment opportunities.

Operated by an NGO dedicated to aiding persons with disabilities, the cafe serves as a platform for employment and empowerment. The non-profit organization plays a pivotal role in creating job opportunities for this community.

At the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) extended a request to all attendees, encouraging them to visit the cafe and lend their support to this commendable initiative.

It is also noteworthy that CJI Chandrachud is the father to two adopted differently-abled girl daughters.
