Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments on his official Twitter handle. The three advocates appointed as judges of the Gujarat High Court are:
The Supreme Court Collegium, comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice BR Gavai, recommended the appointment of the three advocates on August 13, 2024.
Earlier, on December 22, the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues, had put forward the names of these advocates for appointment as judges.
The Collegium observed that the Chief Minister and the Governor of Gujarat had not provided their views on the recommendations. As a result, the Supreme Court Collegium carried out its own evaluation, including an assessment of the merit and suitability of the candidates.
Consulted judges from Gujarat expressed favorable opinions regarding the qualifications and appropriateness of the three advocates, further strengthening the Collegium’s decision to recommend their names.
