BREAKING | CM Kejriwal Ready to Respond to ED Summons Post March 12

Today, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has replied to the Enforcement Directorate, asserting that the summons issued to him is illegal. Despite this, he has expressed his readiness to respond to the summons. Kejriwal has requested a date after March 12 from the ED and has confirmed his attendance at the hearing via video conferencing.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned the Delhi Chief Minister to appear before the agency on Monday for questioning regarding the money laundering case associated with alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy for the fiscal year 2021–22, which has been subsequently annulled.

On all the past seven occasions, Kejriwal had skipped the summons.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a complaint against Kejriwal for non-compliance with its summons in a Delhi court. The court has granted an exemption to the chief minister from appearing in person until March 16. Kejriwal participated in the court proceedings virtually, citing his inability to appear in person due to his involvement in the ongoing budget session of the Delhi assembly.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders received bribes amounting to ₹100 crores in connection with the 2021-22 excise policy, which came into effect in November 2021. Subsequently, based on a recommendation from Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, the policy was revoked, and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the alleged irregularities was launched.
