Delhi Minister Atishi is set to become the Chief Minister following Arvind Kejriwal's resignation, which will be formalized after a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena this afternoon.
This decision was made during a meeting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders today.
Ms Atishi currently holds key portfolios in the Delhi government such as education and PWD.
An Oxford University alumnus and Rhodes scholar, Ms. Atishi has played a pivotal role in AAP's initiative to reform education in Delhi's schools. As the MLA from Kalkaji, the 43-year-old was appointed minister following the arrest of Mr. Sisodia in a corruption case related to Delhi's now-scrapped liquor policy.
During the imprisonment of Mr. Kejriwal and Mr. Sisodia, Atishi effectively represented the party's stance.
On August 15, Mr. Kejriwal selected her to hoist the tricolour at the Delhi government's Independence Day event. Although the plan was thwarted by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, it highlighted the AAP leadership's strong confidence in Ms. Atishi.
