In a recent ruling, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition seeking to overturn an order that denied a 30-day parole extension.
The petitioner, Kundan Suresh Pardeshi, a life convict, had been granted a 30-day parole to attend his marriage and later requested an extension, citing his wife’s pregnancy complications. However, the court found significant discrepancies in the medical documentation presented.
The convict had submitted certificates from Eagle Multispeciality Hospital in Aurangabad, despite his wife residing in Nashik. The court questioned the unusual choice of hospital and raised suspicions about the authenticity of the documents, especially since certificates from the same hospital and Dr. Suraj S. Rana, who is under investigation in another criminal matter, had been involved in multiple parole cases.
The court expressed serious doubts about the legitimacy of the medical records and denied the parole extension. Furthermore, it directed the District Superintendent of Police, Aurangabad, to conduct an inquiry into the issuance of the certificates and submit a report within 15 days.
The petition sought to set aside the impugned order from August 28, 2024, on humanitarian grounds, but the court, presided by Justices S.G. Chapalgaonkar and Vibha Kankanwadi, found the documentation insufficient and questionable.
