A special NIA Court in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, granted bail on Wednesday to a man accused by the state's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of threatening a judge associated with the 'Gyanvapi' mosque case through his Instagram account.
The charges include making inappropriate remarks and inciting violence against the judge.
Special NIA Judge Vivekanand Sharan Tripathi granted bail to Adnan, who was charged under Sections 153A, 115, and 506 of the IPC, as well as Section 13 of the UAPA. The judge noted that the offenses carry a maximum punishment of less than seven years and highlighted the absence of any prior criminal history presented by the prosecution. Additionally, the court took into account that Adnan has been in district jail since June 4, 2024.
According to the allegations in the FIR, Khan shared a photo of Additional District Judge (Fast Track Court) Bareilly, Ravi Kumar Diwakar, with a caption stating, "THE KAFIRS BLOOD IS HALAL FOR YOU THOSE WHO FIGHT AGAINST YOUR DEEN." In the image, the word "KAFIR" is prominently displayed in red above the judge's eyes.
Judge Diwakar is recognized for having ordered a videographic survey of the Gyanvapi mosque premises in 2022.
The FIR, lodged by UP ATS Investigating officer, states that the alleged Instagram post has been seen by a lot of people and through this post, “people associated with their ideology have been motivated to kill the judge hearing the Gyanvapi case and the said post is hurting the religious sentiments of people of other religions and Anti-national activities are being carried out to spread enmity and hatred between classes”.
Judge Diwakar, currently serving as an Additional Sessions Judge in Bareilly district, had previously written to the government secretary earlier this year, raising concerns about his security cover, which he described as "inadequate."
