The Central government has appointed Senior Advocate Anil Singh as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India for the Bombay High Court. This marks his fourth appointment to the post.
Singh’s reappointment follows the resignation of Senior Advocate Devang Vyas, who stepped down as ASG for the Gujarat and Bombay High Courts in January 2025 to resume private practice.
A distinguished legal professional with over four decades of experience at the Bombay High Court, Singh previously served as ASG from 2014 to July 2023. After completing his tenure, he opted not to seek an extension and returned to private practice. He had been reappointed to the position in 2017 and 2020.
Beyond his ASG role, Singh has played a key role in the legal fraternity. In 2010, he was elected to the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, securing the highest votes from Mumbai and representing approximately 1.75 lakh lawyers in the state. He was later unanimously elected as Chairman of the Bar Council in 2011.
In 2012, the Bombay High Court designated him as a Senior Advocate. He also briefly served as the Acting Advocate General of Maharashtra for nearly five months in 2015.
