Background Information

The basic selection criteria for grant of scholarship are:
· Academic performance.
· Performance in other areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits.
· Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and brotherhood.
· Moral force of character and characters to lead.
1. This Scholarship is for Rs. 2,00,000/- (Two Lacs).
2. Closing Date -Applications must be submitted online by Tuesday, 28th February 2022.
3. Eligibility Criteria: Only Student who are studying LLB (Both 3 years and 5 years) program can apply in this Scholarship.
a. Nationality/citizenship: You must be a citizen of India/ NRI/ OCI.
b. Education: You must have undertaken formal study at an educational institution in India for a minimum of 4 of the last 10 years, and also
(i) Completed a school leaving exam (12th standard or equivalent) at a school in India, or
(ii) Studying upto the final year of, an undergraduate degree at a university/ Law School/ Law College in India. (Both 3 years and five years programs are included in this scholarship.
(iii) Upon 1st Feb, 2023, you must be at least 18 and shall not exceed 24.
(iv) Academic excellence is one of the biggest criteria but not the sole criteria for selection for this Scholarship but an overall performance would be taken into consideration.
c. If unsuccessful in your first application to the TLA Scholarships, you may subsequently re-apply in the next academic year, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.
3. Application Procedure
a. You can apply online from 1st January, 2023 via the scholarships tab.
b. You must submit your application online, with all supporting documents, by 28th February, 2022.
c. While preparing your application, you must upload a single PDF file along with your resume in the following sequence:
Ø Resume (C.V.) alongwith your passport size photograph
Ø Personal Statement as stated in the terms and conditions.
Ø Marksheets of Class X and XII (Name it Annexure-1)
Ø Marksheets of all the Semesters examination (For UG program) (Name it Annexure-2)
Ø Certificates, awards won during School time and Law School. (Name it Annexure-3)
d. If you are shortlisted, you may be invited to attend an interview, which may be held in person or via video conference.
e. Shortlisted candidates may be invited to a social engagement (a tea or dinner with the selection committee hosted by the Chairman) for a final interview. No candidate will be selected without an interview. The granting of an interview is entirely within the discretion of the Selection Committee. A domestic travel allowance for candidates invited for the final interview will be paid by the TLA.
f. All applicants will be emailed with the outcome of their application.
4. Documents and details to be submitted with application
You must submit a completed application form on-line with copies of the documents and information detailed below. All documents must be submitted in English, or with English translations included. Please note that, if you are invited to interview, you may be asked to bring the originals of all documents with you:
a. Your birth certificate or valid passport or such other document, confirming that you meet the age criterion.
b. A valid passport or equivalent proof of citizenship such as a Voter ID (with translation, if necessary), confirming that you meet the citizenship criteria. You must be a citizen of India.
c. An official transcript from the college or university at which you are studying, or have studied, showing grades achieved (to date).
d. A full curriculum vitae which should include details about academic qualifications, prizes, scholarships, positions of leadership, employment positions, involvement in student, voluntary, community or political activities and any cultural, musical or sporting accomplishments.
This should not exceed two A4 pages in length. Please include a photograph in your CV. Your CV should be wholly accurate and a fair representation of your achievements. You should anticipate that details will be checked for embellishments and inaccuracies. Material misrepresentation will result in disqualification of an application and, where appropriate, the rescinding of a scholarship. Any misrepresentation would also lead you to disqualification for future applications.
j. A personal statement of not more than 1,000 words.
The personal statement is your chance to tell your story in your own voice: Who are you? What matters to you? What are you hoping to do in the world? Your academic transcript and academic statement of study, your curriculum vitae, and your reference letters will provide the substantive detail of your commitments and accomplishments, but this essay gives you the opportunity to cast the overarching narrative for the selection committee. You can find further guidance on the personal statement on the ‘Application Overview’ page. Please ensure that your personal statement:
i. Addresses your general interests and activities. Areas of interest and passions.
ii. State your aims and priorities and the contributions you have made and hope to make to the world and communities of which you are part.
Your personal statement should be wholly accurate and a fair representation of your story, written in your own words from your own perspective. It should be entirely your own work, with no assistance received. Through the online application form you will be asked to confirm that the entered/uploaded personal statement is accurate, is your own work and that no external help was given in its creation or editing.
k. You will need to provide a list of 2 people to give your reference who are willing to submit references on your behalf:
i. At least one of your referees should be academician who has formally taught you in your School or undergraduate studies and who can comment in detail on your academic ability and how well they think you would fare at Law School.
ii. Your referee should testify to your character and/or your involvement in extra-curricular/service or leadership activities. These referees should be persons who are able to comment critically on whether you fulfil the extra-curricular, non-academic requirements of the Scholarship and who can speak in detail to your character.
iii. A good referee is one who knows you well, rather than a well-known person who only knows you superficially. Please note that TLA Scholarship referees are not typically personal friends, contemporaries or relatives. If a referee fits into one of these categories, they should make the connection clear within the reference.
iv. Choose reliable people who are likely to respond to your request for a detailed reference, as their letters will be crucial to your application. Insufficient references will disqualify your application from being considered by the Selection Committee.
v. You will need to provide email addresses or mobile numbers for all of your referees.
vi. Ask their permission before listing them as referees.
vii. Please note that your referees may be contacted for further information.
l. Please do not upload documents, certificates, testimonials or links / URL’s other than those required.
m. All applications must be submitted online within stipulated time. No alternate method of application is accepted. There could be a nominal application fee for submission of the TLA Scholarship application form.
5. Selection Procedure
a. Selection for the TLA Scholarship is made without regard to financial means.
b. Selection for the TLA Scholarship is made without regard to marital status, race, ethnic origin, colour, gender, religion, sexual orientation, social background, disability, caste or other irrelevant distinction.
c. No selection will be made if a sufficiently qualified candidate cannot be found.
d. The decision of the Selection Committee is final.
e. No person or their family members are eligible to apply for this Scholarship in any direct or indirect manner.
6. After Selection
A cheque would be given or bank transfer would be done direct into the bank account of your Law School or Law College or Law University along with a certificate of Scholarship. A letter of appreciation would be sent to the institution where the selected candidate is studying.
The TLA may contact you some time after the submission to ask for feedback on the application process and any interactions you have had with the TLA staff and volunteers. This feed back would be in the form of a video.
