Amid the scheduled G-20 Summit in Delhi on 08th-10th September, 2023, when the Government of Delhi and the Central Governments have proposed to close Schools, offices, markets etc, the question which looms presently is Whether the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court and such other courts and organization would be functioning on the dates.
The shadow of doubt is not clear yet. When 'The Law Advice' interacted with the Hony. Secretary, Supreme Court Bar Association Mr Rohit Pandey, he said that the Chief Justice of India is a hard-working person and he does not want to waste even one day's work and if the need arises, the functioning of the Supreme Court could be done through video conferencing.
The Supreme Court is placed next to the venue of G-20 Summit 'Pragati Maidan" which would undoubtedly cause a lot of functional issues to the functioning of the court in the light of the fact that the Metro Stations near and around the Supreme Court would remain shut during these days.
The Law Advice has also come across the Message circulated by the Hony. Secretary, SCBA which reads as under
"In regard to the restriction of movement due to G20 Summit in Pragati Maidan on 8th September, today the EC of SCBA spoke to the Hon’ble CJI and informed him about the inconvenience the Members and their staff would face. Consequently, the Hon’ble CJI agreed to consider holding Court through virtual hearings on the said day. We have also been informed that the registry is seeking further information from the Govt. regarding movement and traffic on the said day. Moreover, Hon’ble CJI would be consulting with the other Hon’ble Judges as he is not in the favour of sacrificing a working day by declaring a holiday."
Now the Chief Justice of India has to take a call on the issue.
