In a dramatic turn of events, 25-year-old Sohail Khan, a wanted criminal from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, surrendered at the Patiala House Court in Delhi wearing a burqa.
Khan, who was wanted in connection with a firing incident outside a businessman's residence on October 26, claimed he feared for his life and alleged the possibility of being killed in a police encounter.
Before surrendering, Khan filed an application in the court, asserting his innocence and expressing concerns over police actions. Upon his surrender, he was promptly arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
The Case Against Sohail Khan
CCTV footage from the incident in northwest Delhi's Rani Bagh area revealed a man, suspected to be Khan, firing multiple shots in the air and throwing a note into the businessman's home. The note reportedly demanded ₹15 crore as extortion and mentioned the names of gangsters associated with the Bambiha gang.
Khan is believed to be linked to the Bambiha-Kaushal Chaudhary gang. Following the incident, he went into hiding, evading multiple police teams. Two other suspects, Bilal Ansari (22) and Shuheb (21), were apprehended within a week of the incident, with one sustaining injuries during a police encounter.
Khan’s Criminal Record and Interrogation
Sohail Khan, who has over half a dozen cases of robbery and snatching registered against him in Delhi and nearby areas, remained on the run until his surrender. After his arrest, the court remanded him to seven days of police custody for further interrogation.
The incident underscores the lengths to which wanted individuals go to evade arrest, raising questions about their networks and strategies while highlighting the persistence of law enforcement agencies in tracking them down.
