Uttarakhand High Court Directs Establishment of Bench at IDPL, Rishikesh,

The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the exploration of establishing a High Court bench in IDPL, Rishikesh, eliciting joy among local advocates. This directive came amidst the hearing of a petition submitted by IDPL residents, who likewise expressed their delight at the prospect.

On Wednesday, Chief Justice Ritu Bahri presided over the division bench of the High Court hearing the case. The case pertains to the government's efforts to vacate the IDPL premises in Rishikesh. In response, a petition was filed on behalf of the residents living on the IDPL premises after its expiration. The High Court granted a stay in this matter.

During Wednesday's hearing, the government disclosed its intention to repurpose the vacated IDPL land for a more beneficial scheme. In response, Chief Justice Ritu Bahri instructed Chief Secretary Uttarakhand, Radha Raturi, to investigate the feasibility of establishing a High Court bench on the IDPL premises.

Family members of former employees congregated at the IDPL Community Center under the auspices of the IDPL Dependents Welfare Committee. Together, they watched the Wednesday High Court hearing on the IDPL issue via a large screen broadcast online.

Upon Chief Justice Ritu Bahri's directive to Chief Secretary Uttarakhand regarding the potential establishment of a High Court bench on IDPL land, a wave of joy swept through the local community. Drums resounded, fireworks illuminated the sky, and sweets were joyously shared, marking the occasion with celebration and cheer.

On this occasion, Committee Chairman Vayu Raj Singh, Vice Chairman Arpit Rajput, Secretary Ajay Shridhar, Treasurer Puneet Bajaj, Vinish Naithani, Sehjal Yusuf Jai, Wasim Yusuf, Darshana Shridhar, Gulshan Bhanot, Santosh Sharma etc. were present.

Rishikesh advocates also voiced their delight regarding the directive to explore the feasibility of establishing a High Court bench in Rishikesh. Pancham Singh Mia, President of the Bar Association, welcomed this decision by the High Court's division bench, emphasizing its positive impact.

Former President Rajendra Sajwan remarked that the call for establishing a High Court bench in the Garhwal division has been a longstanding demand. He highlighted that the IDPL site in Rishikesh is particularly well-suited for this purpose.

Advocate Amit Vats said that the High Court has taken cognizance of the long standing demand of the advocates. With the establishment of the High Court bench here, while the citizens of Garhwal division will get convenience, a new identity of Rishikesh will also be created.
