Uttarakhand HC Halts 'Sainya Dham' Construction in Dehradun Amid Land Dispute

The High Court of Uttarakhand has halted the Revenue Department's notification regarding the construction of 'Sainya Dham' in Dehradun.

This decision came as the Court reviewed a petition alleging that the memorial for fallen soldiers was being erected on private property without obtaining the required consent from the landowners or providing them with any compensation.

Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari, presiding as a single bench, has suspended the notification issued on August 21, 2023, and has instructed the government to provide its response.

The petition, filed by Dehradun resident Seema Kanojia, alleges that the Sainik Welfare & Rehabilitation Board is constructing the Sainya Dham on private land in Guniyal village, located along the Mussoorie road in Dehradun.

The petition alleged that the board proceeded with the construction of Sainya Dham without obtaining permission from the landowners or providing them any compensation. The court has scheduled the next hearing in this case for June 18. Former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat laid the foundation stone for Sainya Dham on January 23, 2021.
