The Uttarakhand High Court, in response to a PIL addressing inadequate health facilities at BD Pandey Men's Hospital in Nainital, has queried the Central Government about the feasibility of establishing an AIIMS-like facility in the Nainital district.
Instructing amicus curiae advocate Vikas Bahuguna to revisit the hospital for further assessment of the healthcare infrastructure, the court has scheduled the next hearing for June.
During the hearing, the division bench, consisting of Chief Justice Ritu Bahri and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal, addressed the PIL filed by city resident Ashok Sah. The PIL highlighted the issue of BD Pandey Men's Hospital, the primary healthcare facility in the district, directing patients to Haldwani even for minor tests.
Despite serving patients from remote areas, the hospital refers them to higher centers after an initial examination, as noted in the petition.
Advocate Akram Parvez, during the hearing, apprised the court about the persisting inadequacies in the hospital's facilities, necessitating patients to seek treatment elsewhere. In response, the government representative stated that numerous essential facilities had already been furnished in compliance with prior directives.
