Uddhav Thackeray faction reaches Supreme Court challenging decision of Election Commission of India

The Eknath Shinde faction was recognised by the Election Commission of India as the official Shiv Sena. The Uddhav Thackeray faction has appealed this decision to the Supreme Court.

Senior Attorney Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi brought up the issue before the Chief Justice of India and asked that it be scheduled to be heard by the Constitution Bench tomorrow along with the other issues that are currently pending. The subject was not in today's list of matters to be mentioned, hence CJI DY Chandrachud refused to permit Singhvi's mentioning. CJI instructed Singhvi to bring up the subject tomorrow.

The ECI approved Eknath Shinde's request on February 17 to assign the Shiv Sena's official name and symbol, the "bow and arrow."

The Supreme Court's Constitution Bench is now deliberating over the matters pertaining to the Shiv Sena split. The Bench agreed to hear the case on the merits starting on February 17.
