On Friday, the Supreme Court directed National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and his estranged wife, Payal Abdullah, to attend mediation sessions in an effort to explore a potential settlement.
A bench consisting of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah stated that the case will be heard on November 4, following the submission of a report from the Supreme Court Mediation Centre.
The Supreme Court had previously requested a response from Payal Abdullah regarding her husband's divorce petition. Earlier, on December 12, 2023, the Delhi High Court had rejected Omar Abdullah's divorce plea, finding no merit in his appeal.
The high court had upheld the 2016 family court decision denying a divorce decree to Abdullah, who is the former chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
