Three senior advocates sworn in as judges in Punjab & Haryana HC

Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Ritu Bahri, administered oath of office to senior advocate Sumeet Goel, as well as advocates Sudeepti Sharma and Kirti Singh, who have been appointed as judges of the high court on Monday.

The central government officially announced their appointment as High Court judges on November 2.

Sumeet Goel, a well-known lawyer, held the position of standing counsel for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an extended period, spanning from 2011 to 2022, marking the longest-ever tenure with the central agency. Additionally, he served as a member of the scrutinizing and evaluation committee of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority from 2016 to 2022 and provided pro-bono legal counsel to the Haryana State Legal Services Authority for approximately two decades.

Kirti Singh was employed as a law officer in the office of the Advocate General (AG) of Haryana, while Sudeepti Sharma practiced law in the High Court.

These three appointments have brought the total number of judges in the local high court to 56, which is still below the sanctioned strength of 85 judges. The Punjab and Haryana High Court holds a significant position in the country, being one of the largest high courts, with jurisdiction over two states, Haryana and Punjab, as well as the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
