There are more than 1800 witnesses, the accused might not see the fate of trial in his life, bail granted by Supreme Court to a 75 years old man

The Division bench of Justices S. Abdul Nazeer and V. Ramasubramanian granted bail to a 75 years old man who is in jail for about seven and half years and there is likelihood of trial taking long time.

It was argued by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi that there are more than 80 FIRs clubbed and there are 3 more FIRs to be clubbed with the bunch making the tally of witnesses to 3500 and only about 350 witnesses have been examined.

On inquiry made by the court, the state counsel submitted before the court that there are only 1800 witnesses and more than 400 witnesses have been examined.

The Top Court while granting bail to accused orally observed that the accused might not see the end of trial in these circumstances.
