Suspended JD(S) Leader Prajwal Revanna Seeks Digital Evidence from SIT in Multiple Allegation Cases

Suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna, who is facing multiple allegations, including rape, sexual assault, and criminal intimidation in four separate cases, has approached the Karnataka High Court for copies of digital evidence gathered against him by the State Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Revanna’s plea was heard on Thursday by Justice M. Nagaprasanna.

The Court clarified that while he is entitled to access evidence directly relevant to his cases, it will not allow the release of material that could expose the identities of victims other than the complainant before the trial.

Additional Special Public Prosecutor BN Jagadeesha argued that the request for extensive evidence—comprising over 15,000 images and 2,000 videos recovered from a Samsung phone allegedly belonging to Revanna's driver—was a tactic to delay proceedings. Jagadeesha noted that many of these materials contained information about other victims, and sharing them would risk their identities being revealed before trial.

The Court ruled that the SIT must provide any evidence pertinent to Revanna’s case that has yet to be shared, in line with the Supreme Court’s decision in P Gopalakrishnan v. State of Kerala. Justice Nagaprasanna emphasized that the identity of other victims must be protected, and the trial court must refrain from framing charges until the High Court resolves Revanna’s petition, scheduled for a further hearing on January 16.

Revanna, the son of former Karnataka minister HD Revanna and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, faces serious charges in four distinct cases. The SIT, which is investigating these sexual assault and harassment cases, submitted a 2,144-page chargesheet on August 24, marking the first of the four cases before the special court designated for MPs/MLAs.
