The Nagaland government has informed the Supreme Court that a bill to provide 33 percent reservation for women in urban local bodies has been introduced in the state assembly. The Nagaland Assembly had on September 12 decided to refer the Nagaland Municipal Bill, 2023, to a select committee for further consideration.

"The Uniform Board/Syllabus across India does not take into account the local context, culture and language. There is a national framework with flexibility for the emphasis of local resources, culture and ethos. A child can better relate to a curriculum that is more closely related to his/her life outside the school.Therefore, multiplicity of curricula and other educational resource is desirable in addition to a core common element," it said.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has announced an extension of the registration deadline for the All India Bar Examination - XVIII. According to the revised schedule, interested candidates now have the opportunity to register for the AIBE 18 examination via the official website, allindiabarexamination.com, until October 9, 2023. Additionally, the deadline for fee payment has also been extended until October 10, 2023. This extension provides candidates with more time to complete their registration and payment processes for the upcoming examination.

Today, Mr. Rohit Pandey, the Hony. Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, informed the TLA network that, Supreme Court Bar Association organised and celebrated Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.  This was first of its kind event which was presided by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjiv Khanna as Chief Guest for the event along with Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal and Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. V. Vishwanathan.
 
 The Supreme Court has decided to release a prisoner who had been serving a life sentence for murder. This decision comes after the individual spent over 11 years behind bars following a conviction in a lower court.

A division bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal ordered that convict Dinesh alias Paul Daniel Khajekar be released on bail pending final disposal of the appeal by the Bombay High Court. Dinesh was arrested on October 29, 2011, when he was 20 years old. In fact, a person had died during a scuffle between the accused and others, for which he was sentenced. According to the convict's lawyer, he is currently 32 years old and his appeal is pending in the High Court for the last six years.

Recently, the Supreme Court imposed a  fine of three lakh rupees to former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. This penalty comes as a consequence of Bhatt's filing of petitions that accused the presiding judge overseeing the trial in the alleged drug planting case against him of bias and unfairness.

A division bench, consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Rajesh Bindal, has imposed a cost of one lakh rupees on three petitions submitted by Bhatt. These funds are to be deposited with the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association. The first petition aimed to transfer the trial to the Court of the senior-most Additional Sessions Judge in Banaskantha at Palanpur, alleging partiality on the part of the current trial judge, who holds the position of the third Additional Sessions Judge. The second petition requested the audio-video recording of the trial court proceedings, while the third petition sought to introduce additional evidence in the case.

Recently, the Supreme Court of India rejected a PIL seeking directions for the construction of a wall at Sri Ram Setu and urging the Union of India to declare Sri Ram Setu as a national monument.

The Supreme Court says that this is an administrative decision and asked the petitioner how the court can give instructions to build the wall. The Supreme Court also refused to tag that PIL with another petition seeking a direction to declare the monument as a national heritage.

Recently, while hearing a matter involving a child custody dispute within a matrimonial context, the Supreme Court made alterations to a condition set by the Family Court. As per the Family Court, it mandated that the father must visit and interact with the child solely within the court premises.

The matter was heard before the division bench of Justices AS Bopanna and Manoj Misra.

Supreme Court of India has appointed sign language interpreter for deaf lawyer Sarah Sunny.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud made an oral statement indicating his intention to establish a seven-judge bench in the near future to address the constitutional matter concerning money bills.

This statement came in response to Senior Advocate Menaka Guruswamy, who was presenting her case before a bench consisting of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra, and raised the aforementioned issue.

Supreme Court of India issued notice on a writ petition challenging the cash assistance offers announced by the Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as 'election freebies'.

Furthermore, the bench has also served notices to the Union of India, the States of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and the Election Commission of India. The matter has been scheduled for a hearing four weeks from now.

Supreme Court, while hearing the petition related to the caste census conducted by the Bihar government, said that we cannot stop any state government from making policy or working. Can only review it. Now the next hearing in this case will be in January 2024.
