Supreme Court to provide all scanned Paper-books to AORs

In an initiative taken by the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, the Supreme Court would Share canned copy of all the filed with Advocate-on-Records. The Notice says that the Paper-books would be arranged in three sets and bookmarked accordingly. The first set would consist of the SLP Paper-book, the second set would consist of counter-affidavit, rejoinder, interim applications (IAs), additional documents and all subsequently filed documents and inclusions, and the third set would contain record of proceedings (ROPs) and office reports (ORs).

The Scanned Paper-books would be numbered as it is numbered in the file of judges.

Along with the Notice, the Court has also provided the Use Manual.

The notice reads as follows:-

Sub: Sharing of scanned (digitized) paper books with Advocates-on-Record on pilot basis

1. An issue has been flagged about variation in reference to page numbers of the scanned and digitized paper books during court proceedings. Such variation often causes grave inconvenience and loss of invaluable time of the Court and the members of the bar.

2. As a remedial measure, the Registry shall be sharing the scanned and digitized paper books with the concerned Advocates-on-Record through eFiling 2.0 platform with an objective, to facilitate synchronized browsing and reference of page numbers during the course of court hearings.

3. Please take note that for ease of convenience and facilitation, the paper books would be segregated into three separate portable document format (PDF) files as under:

 PDF Main: would contain the petitions and documents submitted at the time of filing/registration of case;
 PDF of Additional Documents: would contain counter-affidavit, rejoinder, interim applications (IAs), additional documents and all subsequently filed documents and inclusions, and
 PDF of RoPs, ORs: would contain record of proceedings (ROPs) and office reports (ORs).

4. Please take further note that the bookmarks in these PDFs would be standardized and all steps would be taken to maintain in seriatim chronology of documents.

5. The PDFs shall be accessible on the e-Filing dashboard of the concerned Advocate-on-Record (please refer the enclosed User Manual) who may download the same and use it or may share the PDFs with Senior Advocates, and/or Advocates.

6. Please take notice that the above mechanism shall be operational in Hon’ble the Chief Justice’s Court on pilot basis w.e.f. 25.01.2024.
