Supreme Court shall not be burdened with more cases: Attorney General R. Venkataramani

While speaking on the 73rd Constitution Day, Attorney General of India R. Venkataramani said on the issue of pendency in Supreme Court that the Government should not be overburdened with more cases by the Government.

While worrying about the pendency, the top legal officer of the Government said the Government should stop overburdening the Supreme Court and High Court with endless statutory appeals for a smooth and voluminous flow of cases. AG Venkataramani said during the function that the practice of filing a petition before the Supreme Court and High Courts shall be opposed. In small matters, the court shall not be burdened. A large part of the appeals filed by the government against the order of the High Courts is pending before the Constitution Bench in the Supreme Court.

AG said that whether to not we put our views on the Court of appeals, that alone can stop the flow of work in the supreme court. We need to strengthen and decongest our High Court. If the Government prepares a roadmap to adopt a litigation policy, then the burden on the supreme court can be reduced. For a long time, the government has been talking about a litigation policy. There is no reason why this policy cannot emerge.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present at the function.

AG said that every case should not be a legal dispute. Every department should have a resolution wing with contempt, a legal instrument to resolve fact-based issues. Only complex legal issues which cannot be resolved in the resolution wing can be challenged. The Court of Solution can be brought in.
