Supreme Court rejects plea against comedian Anubhav Bassi

Today, the Supreme Court rejected a petition of Delhi based lawyer, seeking action against stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi for allegedly insulting lawyers during one of his comedy shows.

The petitioner, claimed that Bassi’s comedy show denigrated advocates as a group.

The division bench of Justices SK Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia expressed reluctance to hear the petition against a stand-up comedy show.

“Why should we entertain this in the face of a stand-up comedy show?” “Bring something better,” the Supreme Court said.

Further, the bench said that it is the responsibility of the lawyers to defend the legal community.

“Leave other lawyers to look after themselves.” You are not required to defend the entire community.

“You look after yourself,” the court said.

According to the petition, Anubhav Singh Bassi’s show ‘Bas Kar Bassi’ portrayed the legal community in a negative light.
