Supreme Court issues notice to YS Avinash Reddy in YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case

The Supreme Court has sought a response from YS Avinash Reddy, a Member of Parliament from Kadapa, in an appeal challenging the anticipatory bail granted to him in connection with the murder of former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy. A vacation bench of Justices Surya Kant and MM Sundresh issued the notice and scheduled the hearing for July 3.

The petition was filed by Suneetha Narreddy, the daughter of late YS Vivekananda Reddy. She moved the apex court after the Telangana High Court granted anticipatory bail to Avinash Reddy in the murder case. The High Court had based its decision on the lack of direct evidence against him and the reliance on hearsay evidence.

In her appeal, Suneetha argued that the High Court had conducted a mini-trial and made comments on the merits of the case. She also raised concerns about the accused's position as an MP, which could potentially influence and threaten witnesses. Suneetha further highlighted the accused's lack of cooperation with the investigating agency in the past.

Suneetha Reddy has also approached the Supreme Court regarding her late father's former personal assistant, Krishna Reddy, alleging his involvement in the crime and portraying himself as a victim.

YS Vivekananda Reddy, a former Kadapa MP, was fatally stabbed at his residence in March 2019. The Andhra Pradesh High Court transferred the murder investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2020. Later, the Supreme Court transferred the trial to a Special CBI Court in Hyderabad.

Previously, the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction with the Telangana High Court's delay in deciding on Avinash Reddy's bail plea and instructed a vacation bench to address the matter. Following the Supreme Court's directive, the High Court heard the plea and granted anticipatory bail to the accused.
