Supreme Court honors 47 retired judges as senior advocates

On October 16, 2023, during a full court meeting, the Supreme Court designated 47 retired judges and chief justices from various high courts as senior advocates. This recognition marks a significant acknowledgment of their outstanding legal expertise and contributions to the field.

The names are:

  1. Ms. Sonia Gokani, former Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. 

  2. Mr. Ali Mohammad Magrey, former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh high court.

  3. Mr. Satish Kumar Mittal (Satish Kumar), former Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.

  4. Mr. Ramesh Deokinandan Dhanuka, former Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. 

  5. Mr. Mohammad Rafiq, former Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

  6. Mrs. Sabina, former Acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. 

  7. Mr. Badar Durrez Ahmed, former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

  8. Mr. Mahesh Mittal Kumar, former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

  9. Dr. S. Muralidhar, former Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

  10. Mr. Vangala Eswaraiah (V. Eswaraiah), former Acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

  11. Mr. C. Praveen Kumar, former Acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

  47. Mr. Somayajulu, D.V.S.S., former judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. 

Among the 47 individuals designated as senior advocates, it was observed that the former Chief Justice of Orissa S. Murlidhar, who had previously practiced in the Supreme Court before elevation to the High Court, was present in the Supreme Court today.
