Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Seven Additional Judges for Permanent Positions in HC

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of seven additional judges as permanent judges of the High Court. The Collegium also proposed that two other additional judges receive a renewed term of one year as additional judges, starting from October 7.

The judges who have been recommended for permanent appointment are: Justices SG ChapalgaonkarMM SathayeNeela Kedar GokhaleYG KhobragadeMW ChandwaniAS Waghwase and RM Joshi.

The two judges who have been recommended for a fresh term are Justices SA Deshmukh and VV Joshi.

The recommendations for Justices Chapalgaonkar, Sathaye, and Gokhale were made by the Bombay High Court Collegium on May 3. The remaining recommendations were made on April 1. Currently, the Bombay High Court was operating with 66 judges out of a sanctioned strength of 94. Among these, 17 were additional judges and 49 were permanent judges.
