Supreme Court collegium recommends names of two advocates for appointment as Judges of Madras High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium, comprising of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice SK Kaul, and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, has recommended the names of two advocates for appointment as Judges of the Madras High Court.

The two includes N Senthilkumar and G Arul Murugan.

''The elevation of the two advocates as judges is expected to bring better representation at the bar, as they belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community and the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community respectively'' Collegium said.

The Collegium revisited the recommendation on May 9 but deferred its decision to seek the opinion of two members of the High Court Collegium, as an earlier recommendation for the transfer of the then Acting Chief Justice was pending.

The allocation of seniority between the two advocates will be in accordance with the existing practice, the Collegium stated.

The recommendation will now be forwarded to the President of India for formal appointment and issuance of the necessary notifications.
