Subramanian Swami directed by DHC to vacate the Govt house within 6 weeks

Today, while dismissing a Writ petition, Justice Yashwant Varma of Delhi High Court directed former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swami to hand over the Government accommodation back to the Government allotted to him in 2016 within six weeks. Sr. Swamy was handed over the possession in the year 2016 in the capacity of Rajya Sabha MP.

Mr. Swamy was allotted this Government accommodation on 15.01.2016 and  his Rajya Sabha MP Term came to an end on 24.04.2022. It is to be noted that Mr. Swamy has been given Z category security and this accommodation has been given to him for the very same reason. When Mr. Swami was given notice of eviction, he had moved to the High Court of Delhi and prayed that the accommodation which has been given to him in 2016 shall be continued considering his security arrangements.

Opposing the same ASG Sanjay Jain appearing for the Union Government submitted before the court that while Mr. Swami continued to remain a Z category protected, the policy and guidelines which governs such protected does not puts the government under obgation to provide the accommodation. ASG submitted that the Government will continue to extend Z securityto Mr. Swamy subject to periodical review. ASG Jain also submitted that Mr. Swamy has a residential accommodation and he could easily shift there.
