Special Court Finds Evidence Against Six in Salman Khan Shooting Case

On Monday, a special court indicated that there is prima facie enough evidence against the six arrested individuals, who are charged with attempted murder among other offenses, related to the April shooting at Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence in Bandra.

Special Judge B.D. Shelke has taken cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the Mumbai police against six accused individuals. The court noted that the chargesheet and accompanying documents provide sufficient prima facie evidence to proceed against the accused for offenses under IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 34 (common intention), and 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), among others, as well as relevant provisions of the MCOC (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime) Act and the Arms Act.

"There is sufficient prima facie material on record for proceeding against the accused, and hence cognisance (of the chargesheet) is taken," it said.

The court has issued process to the accused: Vickykumar Gupta, Sagarkumar Pal, Sonukumar Bishnoi, Anujkumar Thapan (now deceased), Mohd Rafiq Choudhary, and Harpal Singh. All are currently in judicial custody following their arrests, except for Thapan, who committed suicide while in custody.

Earlier this month, the police submitted a 1,735-page chargesheet to the special MCOC court, which included various investigative documents compiled in three volumes. The chargesheet also contains confessional statements under the MCOC Act, 22 panchanamas, and technical evidence.

The case involves two motorcycle-borne assailants who fired five rounds outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartment in Bandra in the early hours of April 14.
