The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka's Crime Investigation Department (CID) has filed a detailed 2,144-page chargesheet against former Janata Dal Secular (JDS) MP Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna.
This chargesheet, the first in four cases under investigation, was submitted to the special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru.
Prajwal Revanna has been charged with rape, specifically of a woman who was employed as a domestic help in the family's household, while HD Revanna faces charges of sexual harassment. According to the chargesheet, HD Revanna is listed as the first accused under Sections 354 and 354(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), while Prajwal Revanna is the second accused, charged under Sections 376, 376(2)(k), 354, 354(A), and 354(B), among others. The evidence includes testimony from over 130 witnesses and forensic confirmation linking Prajwal Revanna to a video of the sexual assault.
The allegations stem from incidents between 2019 and 2022, where HD Revanna is accused of repeatedly harassing the victim during her employment. Prajwal Revanna allegedly raped the victim in 2020, during a visit arranged by his mother, Bhavani Revanna, to their home in Bengaluru. The case gained traction after videos of sexual assaults involving multiple women, including the victim, were circulated online.
An FIR was registered on April 28 at Holenaraseepur town police station, following a complaint by one of the victims, leading to a broader investigation by the SIT, headed by senior IPS officer BK Singh. Amid the ensuing controversy, Prajwal Revanna fled to Germany shortly after the April 26 Lok Sabha elections but was arrested upon his return to India on May 31. He is currently in judicial custody, while HD Revanna, who had initially secured bail, faces a stay on the bail order issued by the Karnataka High Court
