Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has approached the Karnataka High Court to challenge the Governor's recent decision granting sanction for his prosecution in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam.
Justice Hemant Chandangoudar indicated that the High Court would schedule a hearing on the matter either this afternoon or tomorrow, pending the Chief Justice's approval.
The sanction for prosecution was granted by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on August 17 in connection with claims of irregularities in land allocations managed by MUDA. The decision followed requests for prosecution from social activists TJ Abraham, Snehamai Krishna of Mysore, and Pradeep Kumar SP of Bangalore.
Abraham initially sought the prosecution sanction in July, prompting the Governor to issue a show-cause notice to Siddaramaiah shortly thereafter.
The allegations center around purported irregularities in the allocation of approximately 14 plots of land in Mysuru to Siddaramaiah's wife. Opposition parties have claimed that the land, designated for Dalit community members, was improperly allocated to Siddaramaiah's wife using forged documents, resulting in significant financial losses.
Additionally, Siddaramaiah's brother-in-law, Malikarjuna Swamy Devaraj, is also implicated in the alleged scam, which involves accusations against senior MUDA officials.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly denied all accusations related to the case.
