SCAORA strongly condemns human rights violations in Manipur, vows to provide legal assistance to victims

In response to the disturbing videos depicting human rights violations in Manipur, the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA) has issued a powerful statement condemning the incident in the strongest terms. The organization expresses deep shock and sadness at the gross violation of human rights, as shown in the videos that have surfaced on various social and media platforms.

The SCAORA acknowledges that such incidents not only highlight the failure of the state machinery to protect the fundamental human rights of its citizens but also indicate a breakdown in administration and control over the riots in the state.

Furthermore, the association expresses its strong objection to the illegal filing of First Information Reports (FIRs) and unwarranted arrests made by the Police against Advocates and Activists who are dedicatedly working to assist the victims and families affected by the riots.

The SCAORA extends its gratitude to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for taking suo moto cognizance of the situation and directing both the Central and State Governments to provide information on the actions taken to bring the perpetrators of these atrocities to justice.

Echoing the deep concern expressed by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, the SCAORA highlights the disturbing use of women as instruments in an area of communal strife, leading to gender-based violence, which is a severe infringement of human rights.

In an effort to aid the pursuit of justice, the SCAORA firmly resolves to offer any and all assistance required by the Hon’ble Supreme Court to ensure the perpetrators of these inhumane acts face legal consequences. This includes providing pro bono legal assistance to all victims affected by the Manipur state riots if needed.

As the nation grapples with the repercussions of this tragic incident, the SCAORA stands united in its commitment to uphold human rights and support those affected by this distressing event.
