In a unique initiative spearheaded by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, the Supreme Court's Communication Division will host a special screening of the Hindi film *Laapataa Ladies* for all Supreme Court judges, their spouses, and members of the registry. The event is scheduled for Friday and will be held at the auditorium within the Supreme Court's administrative building complex.
The screening will also be attended by the movie's producers, veteran Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and acclaimed director Kiran Rao, adding a touch of star power to the event.
This initiative is part of the CJI’s broader effort to promote gender sensitisation within the Supreme Court. The idea for this screening was suggested by Kalpana Das, CJI Chandrachud's wife, after she and her staff viewed the film and recognized its relevance to the court's ongoing gender-related programs.
"It is my initiative to sensitise the Supreme Court staff, and that is why this screening has been organized. There are many such initiatives at the Supreme Court that often go unnoticed. For example, we now have a 24-hour Ayurvedic clinic available for the treatment and relaxation of Supreme Court staff members. This screening is also an opportunity for our members to bond," CJI Chandrachud shared with *Bar & Bench*.
'Laapataa Ladies', which is currently streaming on Netflix, received widespread critical acclaim upon its theatrical release on March 1. The film was also featured at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2023.
