SC to Hear Manish Sisodia's Bail Pleas on Tuesday

AAP leader Manish Sisodia has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to reject his bail applications in cases filed by the ED and CBI concerning the purported liquor policy scam.

According to the case list posted on the Supreme Court's website, a vacation bench comprising Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Sandeep Mehta is agrees to hear Sisodia's petitions on Tuesday.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi faced a significant setback when on May 21, the High Court dismissed his bail applications in cases brought against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) related to an alleged liquor scam. The court stated that the allegations involved serious misuse of power and a breach of public trust by him.

The high court characterized Sisodia's actions as a "grave betrayal of democratic principles," emphasizing that he allegedly engaged in the destruction of crucial evidence, including electronic records. It noted his significant influence within the Delhi government's power corridors, holding 18 portfolios in the city administration. The court highlighted that as a minister responsible for numerous portfolios, including the excise department, Sisodia was entrusted with devising a new liquor policy for Delhi.

In the high court, Sisodia contested a trial court's decision from April 30, which denied his bail petitions in corruption and money laundering cases filed by the CBI and ED. These cases pertain to alleged irregularities in the drafting and implementation of the now-defunct Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.
