The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, announced that the Supreme Court will have 'Special Benches' on Wednesday and Friday to hear Tax Cases. This will begin the following week. The announcement came when a matter for listing of a tax matter was made before the CJI this morning.
"There will be a special bench from next week onwards on Wednesdays and Fridays to deal with direct and indirect sales tax matters solely,” the CJI said.
Last year in October, Justice Chandrachud commended V Lakshmikumaran, founding partner of tax law firm Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, when the latter suggested that the formation of a tax bench would go a long way toward easing the backlog of tax cases before the Supreme Court.
