SC: Tamil Nadu governor should meet CM to resolve row over bills

On Friday, the Supreme Court issued a directive to the Governor of Tamil Nadu, R N Ravi, instructing him to convene a meeting with Chief Minister M K Stalin. The aim is to address the ongoing deadlock resulting from the Governor's reluctance to grant assent to bills passed by the state legislative Assembly.

A panel comprising Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, took cognizance of the statements put forth by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who represented the state government in the matter. Singhvi highlighted that the Governor had returned the reapproved bills, sending them for the consideration of the President.

Expressing a clear preference for a resolution to the deadlock, the bench stated, "We would like the governor to resolve the impasse...We will appreciate it if the governor resolves the impasse with the chief minister. I think the governor invites the chief minister and let them sit down and discuss it."

The court has scheduled December 11 as the date to hear the plea, signifying the urgency and importance attached to the matter.
