SC set to hear petitions alleging Centre's delay in collegium recommendations

On Monday, the Supreme Court has scheduled to deliberate on two petitions, one of which accuses the central government of procrastinating in endorsing names put forth by the collegium for judge appointments and transfers.

A panel comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sudhanshu Dhulia, and Sandeep Mehta is slated to address the matter during the hearing.

During the plea hearings on November 7, the Supreme Court expressed apprehension, highlighting its concern over the perceived selective appointment of judges by the government. The court found it disconcerting that the government appeared to be choosing judges selectively from the collegium's recommended list for positions in the higher judiciary. The hearing on Monday is expected to further delve into these concerns and assess the implications of the alleged delays in the appointment process.
