Today, the division bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi of Supreme Court denied bail to Leena Paulose, who is accused in a ₹200 crore extortion case alongside her husband, alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar.
The Court issued this order after observing that there was no evidence presented to demonstrate any change in circumstances since the Delhi High Court had previously rejected the bail plea.
Previously, the Delhi High Court had turned down her plea, stating that, on initial examination, it appeared that the accused individuals were connected to the offense, and there were no apparent flaws in the trial court's decision
Chandrasekhar is accused of impersonating a law ministry official, and the two women were reported to have paid several crore rupees to Chandrasekhar in an attempt to secure bail for their husbands.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) filed a chargesheet against Leena Paulose, listing multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 170, 186, 384, 386, 388, 419, 420, 406, 409, 468, 471, 353, 506, and 120B. Additionally, she was charged under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act and Sections 3 and 4 of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, 1999. Paulose, Chandrasekhar, and others were accused of utilizing Hawala channels to establish shell companies and launder money obtained from their illegal activities.
