The Supreme Court on Monday quashed an Income Tax Department notice seeking to initiate reassessment proceedings against the spiritual organization Radha Soami Satsang Beas.

The order was delivered by a bench comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan in response to an appeal filed by Radha Soami Satsang Beas challenging a Punjab & Haryana High Court decision that had refused to grant relief.

In May 2022, the Punjab & Haryana High Court dismissed the plea filed by the organization, citing a failure to exhaust alternative statutory remedies. 

Subsequently, in December 2022, the Supreme Court sought a response from the Income Tax Department and granted a stay on the impugned notice. 

Today, the Supreme Court allowed the appeal, thereby resolving the matter.
