SC Issues Notice to Centre, NTA on NEET 2024 Transfer Pleas

The Supreme Court has taken action by issuing notices to the Central government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) in response to petitions requesting the transfer of cases regarding the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET 2024) from various High Courts to the Supreme Court.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, presiding over the bench, consolidated the plea with a previous submission from the National Testing Agency (NTA). The Supreme Court had previously halted proceedings in various High Courts pertaining to NEET 2024 under this submission.

"Issue notice and tag," the Court ordered.

The advocate representing the petitioners requested a stay on the proceedings in the High Courts.

"High Courts generally does not proceed once we issue notice," the Court responded.

The Supreme Court is currently handling a series of petitions concerning alleged irregularities, including accusations of widespread question paper leaks. Petitioners have requested a re-examination based on these grounds. However, some petitioners have opposed this request, arguing that the leaks are isolated incidents and not indicative of a widespread issue.
