SC Extends Deadline by Two Weeks for High-Level Panel's Report on NEET Security Measures

The Supreme Court  the deadline for two weeks for the submission of a report by the High-Level Expert Committee formed by the Union to recommend measures for enhancing security for the NEET exam.

The Court has extended the deadline until November 4, 2024.

The Committee, comprising seven expert members, was established by the Union following the NEET-UG 2024 exam paper leak. The committee is chaired by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, the former Chairman of ISRO.

The 5 broad heads prescribed for the Committee's overview are : (i) Examination Security and Administration, (ii) Data Security and Technological Enhancements, (iii) Policy and Stakeholder Engagement, (iv) Collaboration and International Cooperation, and (v) Support and Training.

The Court had instructed the Committee to submit its report to the Centre by September 30. Additionally, the Ministry of Education was directed to make a decision on the Committee's recommendations within one month of receiving the report.

Today, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the bench, which included CJI DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, that although the report is ready for submission, the committee has requested additional time to finalize it.

The Court granted an extension of an additional two weeks for the report's submission.

"Learned Solicitor General submits that the High Level Committee's Report is ready and will be filed within 2 weeks.Time is extended for that purpose till 4 November 2024"

Notably, the Committee chaired by Dr K Radhakrishnan also comprises: (i) Dr Randeep Guleria (Member) (ii) Prof B J Rao (Member) (iii) Prof Ramamurthy K (Member) (iv) Shri Pankaj Bansal (Member) (v) Prof Aditya Mittal (Member) and (vi) Shri Govind Jaiswal (Member Secretary).
