SC Dismisses PIL Claiming COVID-19 Vaccine Side Effects, Calls It Unnecessary Alarm

On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Priya Mishra and others, which claimed that COVID-19 vaccines caused side effects, including blood clotting. The Court criticized the petition, calling it an attempt to stir unnecessary alarm regarding vaccine safety.

A bench led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, along with Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, expressed skepticism over the plea.

The bench remarked, "File a class action suit if needed. What’s the point of this? Consider the consequences of not getting vaccinated as well. We don’t wish to fuel this, as it seems aimed at creating a sensation."

The Court highlighted the importance of balancing concerns over side effects with the overall benefits of vaccination, urging the petitioners to pursue legitimate legal remedies instead of resorting to sensational claims.
