SC Dismisses Petition Against Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu in Cash-for-Votes Case, Warns Reddy

The Supreme Court has today rejected a petition from YSR Congress Party leader Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, who sought to file FIRs against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in connection with the cash-for-votes scandal.

The division bench comprising, Justices MM Sundresh and Aravind Kumar have issued a stern warning to Reddy, advising him against exploiting the judiciary for political purposes.

The court upheld the Andhra Pradesh High Court's December 9, 2016, decision, which had previously dismissed Reddy’s attempt to involve Naidu in the case. The allegations center around claims that MLC Elvis Stephenson-nominated MLA was offered ₹50 lakh to vote for the Telugu Desam Party during the MLC elections.

Reddy had petitioned the ACB court in Hyderabad, noting that while Naidu was mentioned 22 times in the ACB’s initial report, he was not named as an accused.

The ACB court had then instructed the Telangana ACB to investigate further, but this decision was later overturned by the High Court, providing relief to Naidu
